MANASQUAN — A 78-year-old woman was killed when she drove head-on into a garbage truck Wednesday morning in Manasquan, authorities said.
The woman, whose identity was not immediately released, was driving South on Route 71 when her 2013 Volvo crossed over the center line of the road into the path of an oncoming garbage truck at 11:11 a.m., according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The driver of the 2006 Mack garbage truck, a 44-year-old Bayville resident, was not injured, the prosecutor’s press release said.
The woman, from Manasquan, was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
The crash is under investigation by the Manasquan Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the New Jersey State Police Commercial Carrier Safety Inspection Unit.
