Woman injured in crash where driver was on heroin reportedly gets $1.3M

UPPER DEERFIELD TWP. — A woman who was seriously hurt when her boyfriend struck another vehicle head-on in Cumberland County has been awarded a $1.3 million, a report says.
Brittany Dean, 37, was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by her boyfriend, David Uhland, when the vehicle crossed the center line of the roadway struck another truck, according to The New Jersey Law Journal.
Uhland died in the crash which took place July 12, 2015 on Cornwell Drive in Upper Deerfield Township. Dean and passengers in the other vehicle involved were injured, Dean seriously, Dean’s attorney, Jeffrey Hark of Hark & Hark in Cherry Hill, told the Law Journal.
The report said that the pickup driven by Uhland was owned by his employer, English Sewage Disposal, a Bridgeton-area firm, and was used as both a work and personal vehicle by Uhland.
Hark reportedly said that Uhland’s autopsy revealed heroin in his system. The suit, Dean V. Estate of Uhland, claimed Uhland had a history of drug abuse and his employer was aware of this out allowed him to drive a company truck.
The report said a mediator handled the case and English Sewage Disposal on May 2 agreed to settle and pay a $1.3 million settlement to Dean.
