UNION CITY — A woman was struck and killed Tuesday morning as she was crossing North Marginal Highway, Port Authority police said.
The woman was hit at 7:10 a.m. as she was crossing the street near Park Avenue, near the border of Weehawken and Union City, said Joe Pentangelo, Port Authority police spokesman. It appears that the dump truck was making a right turn onto Marginal when it struck the woman, but the crash is still under investigation. It’s not yet clear if the woman was in the crosswalk at the time, Pentangelo said.
The woman, whose name and age were not immediately available, was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where she was initially listed in critical condition. She was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m. at the hospital, Pentangelo said.
Information on the dump truck driver wasn’t immediately available.
The crash has closed down the Route 495 westbound ramp to Park Avenue, causing some delays in the area.
