CLINTON TWP. – A serious accident closed the westbound side of Interstate 78 at exit 17 (Route 31 south) on Monday.
The accident happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. As of 10:10 p.m., the right lane on the westbound side of the expressway remains closed as an accident investigation continues, according to the state Department of Transportation.
According to those on the scene, the accident involved a vehicle hauling a horse trailer. There were reports of loose horses in the area, but they have been rounded up.
The State Police Northstar medevac helicopter transported one person to an area trauma center. No additional information was available as of Monday night.
Delays of up to 10 minutes are being reported in the area as of 10 p.m.
