Delays on Route 287 in Bernards Township

An overturned tractor trailer on Route 287 made a mess of the morning drive on Wednesday.

New Jersey State Police Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Williams said a truck turned over on the northbound side north of Exist 26 for Mt. Airy Road in Bernards Township around 6:40 a.m., initially blocking two lanes. There was also a minor spill of about 20 gallons of fuel according to Williams. Two people in a car involved with the accident were hospitalized for minor injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Delays grew almost immediately, said New Jersey Traffic’s Bob Williams, stretching back nearly 10 miles to Route 78.

“Drivers got off 287 and got onto 202 to get around the overturn causing more delays on the local roads,” said Bob Williams.

By 9 a.m., all lanes had reopened but major backups continued.
