VINELAND, N.J. (AP) — A man was killed when his car crashed into a salt truck on a southern New Jersey highway.

State police say 32-year-old Michael Bennett, of Sea Isle City, failed to slow down before the crash occurred just before 2 a.m. Monday on Route 55 in Vineland. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The salt truck driver was treated at a hospital for minor injuries. The driver’s name has not been released.

Authorities say the salt truck was traveling at 25 mph and had its strobe lights activated as it spread salt onto the wet roadway.

The accident remains under investigation.
