A Bridgeton man was killed yesterday morning when his car swerved and hit a school bus. The crash, which forced the bus to overturn, also resulted in injuries to four students and one additional adult.
The New Jersey State Police says the accident happened just after 7:40am on State Highway 49 in Cumberland County’s Fairfield Township.
Police say Larry Waller, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers on the bus, Nyreek Russell, 15, Cristal Alvarez, 14, Shy-Anne Walker 17, and Ja-Nye Brown, 11, all of Bridgeton, were treated at the scene and all transported to the hospital with minor injuries. An adult on the bus, Vera Cole, 82, of Fairfield, was taken to Cooper Medical Center with serious injuries. She was last reported to be in critical but stable condition.
The accident remains under investigation by New Jersey State Police.
