Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced a Camden man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting in the city last week.
Lehjye Waring, 24, was charged with first-degree murder of 24-year-old James Rhodes of East Orange, N.J.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday before Superior Court Judge Edward J. McBride Jr. in courtroom 36 at the Camden County Hall of Justice.
Waring is accused of killing Rhodes around 9:20 p.m. on Friday (5/20/16). Camden County Police responded to the 2800 block of North Constitution Road in Camden in reference to a ShotSpotter activation. Officers found the shooting victim lying in the alleyway located between the 2800 block of North Constitution Road and North Congress Road. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:40 p.m.
Waring was processed and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
