OLD BRIDGE – Police are continuing to investigate an accident that killed two on Saturday. The accident involved two motor vehicles in the southbound express lanes of the Garden State Parkway near mile marker 120.9, State Police Sgt. Jeff Flynn said Sunday.

The victims were identified as Kyia Fredericks, 25, of Brick and Rene Munoz, 29, of Toms River. Both Fredericks, who was the driver, and Munoz were in a Chevrolet Camaro that was stopped in the center lane, according to police. A GMC Yukon, driven by Williams Owens, 56, of Howell struck the rear of the Camaro, authorities said.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating the reason why the Camaro was stopped in the center lane, Flynn said.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. and resulted in a shutdown of the southbound express lanes, Flynn said. Traffic was diverted onto the adjacent local southbound lanes.
