MIDDLEBURY, N.Y. (AP) – Police say a the driver of a box truck hauling herbicide has died after his vehicle crashed off a rural western New York road and hit some trees.
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office says the truck crashed on a curve around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the town of Middlebury, 35 miles southwest of Rochester.
Deputies say the driver was ejected from the cab and pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn’t been released.
A county hazardous materials team was called to the accident scene because some of the 1,500 gallons of herbicide in the truck had leaked.
A state hazmat team and police remained at the scene into early Thursday morning.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
