MAHWAH — Two men were found dead Monday morning near a wrecked car off I-287, New Jersey State Police said.

A state Department of Transportation worker found a blue Lexus at about 9:17 a.m. in the woods near I-287 southbound in Mahwah, police said.

Investigators searching the crash scene found the two men dead outside the vehicle, police said. They appear to have been thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

The crash may have taken place sometime Sunday night, police said. Police have not identified the two men.

The state police Totowa Station and Fatal Accident Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate.
