The second juvenile passenger in a car crash that killed another boy and the 37-year-old driver died Sunday, New Jersey State Police said.
Michael LaVecchia III, 13, died of his injuries just before noon Sunday at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, said state police Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Williams.
LaVecchia’s father, Michael LaVecchia Jr., and Giovanni LaBoy, 14, died when the elder’s LaVecchia’s car slammed into the back of a dump truck parked on the shoulder of Route 80 East in Wayne just before 8 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Both LaVecchias and LaBoy were from East Stroudsburg, Pa., police said.
The LaVecchias were wearing seatbelts, but LaBoy, who was seated in the back was not, Wiliams said.
Authorities are conducting a toxicology report because possible drug paraphernalia was found in the elder LaVecchia’s pocket, Williams said.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, police said.
