NEW JERSEY VOTES TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA – BUT IT’S NOT LEGAL YET!

SENATE INTRODUCES PROPOSED BILL

Submitted by New Jersey Drug Crime Lawyer, Jeffrey Hark

On November 5, 2020, the 219th Legislature introduced Senate, No. 21, sponsored by Senators Nicholas P. Scutari and Stephen M. Sweeney, detailing a regulation structure for marijuana legalization.  Most of the provisions of the proposed bill relate to establishing the oversight committees and regulations on businesses.  This post will be concerned about relevant provisions to individual cannabis consumption.

Here are some of the key provisions related to personal marijuana use contained in the proposed senate bill:

It is important to understand that these provisions are still proposed, and will not be law until the legislature votes on the proposal, and the governor signs it into law.  Until that time, we will continue to track the progress of this proposed bill, and any other changes in marijuana, cannabis, weed, and hashish law.
