JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) – Authorities say a young girl who was struck and seriously injured by a bus may have darted out in front of the vehicle.

The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office says the accident occurred Saturday afternoon in Jersey City, near Communipaw and Woodward avenues. The 11-year-old girl suffered face and head injuries and initially was listed in critical condition, but authorities say her condition has since stabilized.

Investigators say the New Jersey Transit bus, which is leased to the A.C. Bus Company in Jersey City, was traveling at a low speed when the girl was struck. Her name hasn’t been released.

The bus driver, 43-year-old David Drayton of Jersey City, remained at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the accident.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
