PARSIPPANY — The driver and a passenger who were killed Sunday in a motorcycle accident on Interstate 287 were from Hamburg, officials said.

James Ruggiero Jr., 56, was driving a 1994 Kawasaki motorcycle around 11 a.m. when he veered right for unknown reasons and drove off the road, according to an update provided by the New Jersey State Police on its Facebook page.

The motorcycle hit a guardrail and ejected both Ruggiero and his passenger, Denise Hannon, 53.

They were pronounced dead on the scene. State police didn’t comment on their relationship, but public records show that they lived at the same address.

The fatal accident caused delays reported to be up to 30 minutes on the southbound lanes. Local traffic lanes were closed and traffic was detoured. The lanes were reopened at about 2:30 p.m., state police said.
